ACT ASPIRE SAMPLE QUESTIONS: GRADE 8 Math

The ACT Aspire is a Computer-Based Longitudinal Assessment System for College and Career Readiness. The students will face a variety of new technology-enhanced questions as a part of the computer-based tests.

Some of them are Multiple choice-single correct responses, Multiple choice-multiple correct responses, Matching Tables, Drag and Drop, Hot text, Table Fill in, Graphing, Equation/numeric, Extended constructed response, Short answer, and many more.

Today, we will share several sample questions along with practice test links for grade 8 Math that gives you an idea of questions that your students are likely to see on the test. After each sample question, an explanation follows that includes any important aspects of the task that you may need to consider with respect to the skills, processes, and information your students need to know.

Domain: Grade 8 >> The Number System

Sample Question: Mark all the True statements.

  1. The √ 52 is between 7 and 8.
  2. The √ 18 is between 5 and 6.
  3. The √ 45 is greater than 6.
  4. The √ 10 is less than 3.

Answer Explanation: The square root of 52 will fall between 7 and 8 because 72 is 49 and 82 is 64. This means that the square root of 52 will fall inbetween these two perfect squares. The square root of 45 is greater than 6 because 62 is 36 and 36 is less than 45.

Sample Question: Write the following number in standard notation.

4.80292 x 105

  1. 48,029,200,000
  2. 48,029,200

Answer Explanation: Moving the decimal 5 places to the right results in 480,292.

Sample Question: Which of the following is NOT a function?

Answer Explanation: {(0, 0), (0, 2), (0, 4)} does not qualify as a function because for x = 0, there is more than one value for y.

Answer Explanation: Correct Answer: option (D)

All of the logos are a result of only reflection, rotation, or translation. Therefore, all the logos would be acceptable.
