Timmy Willie had a rough ride to town as packages were thrown in. He sat trembling among the vegetables till he reached the town.
At last, the cart stopped at a house. The hamper was taken out, carried in, and set down. The Town was a very noisy place. Timmy Willie could hear the dogs barking, and boys whistled in the street. He could hear the cook laughing and the parlor maid run up and down the stairs.
Timmy Willie, who lived all his life in a garden, was almost frightened to death.
He ran all around the house and almost crashed into Johnny, the Town-mouse. Johnny introduced Timmy Willie to nine other mice.
The town mice fed Tommy Willie an eight-course dinner which was truly elegant. Suddenly all the mice started running helter-skelter, and to his horror, Timmy Willie realized they were being chased by a cat. His appetite failed, he felt faint.
Johnny offered Timmy Willie a comfortable sofa pillow to sleep. The sofa pillow had a small hole in it. Johnny said it was very comfortable. But, the sofa smelt of a cat.
It was the same the next day. An excellent breakfast was offered by Johnny. They were chased by the cat and Sarah, the parlor maid all day long.
Timmy Willie wanted to go back to his peaceful nest. He started longing for his home and grew very thin.
So, Timmy Willie said goodbye to his friends and hid inside a hamper of cake which was being sent to the village. After a lot of tossing and turning, he reached home. He promised himself never to leave his peaceful and quite home.
