Sample Question: Which of the following adverbs fits best in the blank in this sentence?

My uncle’s computer which was made in 1987 connects _______________ to the Internet.

  1. angrily
  2. slowly
  3. quickly
  4. fast

Answer Explanation: Answer choice two is the correct answer. An adverb ends in -ly. The fact that the computer is older tells the reader that it is probably not very fast or effective. So, it cannot be quickly. Fast is not appropriate due to the meaning and form of the word. Angrily does not apply to the computer’s connection.
