FSA SAMPLE QUESTIONS: GRADE 7 MATH

The FSA is a Computer-Based Longitudinal Assessment System for College and Career Readiness. The students will face a variety of new technology-enhanced questions as a part of the computer-based tests.

Some of them are Multiple choice-single correct responses, Multiple choice-multiple correct responses, Matching Tables, Drag and Drop, Hot text, Table Fill in, Graphing, Equation/numeric, Extended constructed response, Short answer, and many more.

Today, we will share several sample questions along with practice test links for grade 7 Math that gives you an idea of questions that your students are likely to see on the test. After each sample question, an explanation follows that includes any important aspects of the task that you may need to consider with respect to the skills, processes, and information your students need to know.

Domain: Grade 7 >> Ratios & Proportional Relationships

Sample Question: John eats a bowl of cereal for 3 of his 4 meals each day. He finishes two gallons of milk in eight days. How much milk does John use for one bowl of cereal? (Assume he only uses the milk for his cereal.)

  1. One-twelfth of a gallon of milk
  2. One cup of milk
  3. Two cups of milk
  4. One-sixth of a gallon of milk

Answer Explanation: First, find out how much cereal John eats in 8 days:

(1) 3 bowls per day x 8 days = 24 bowls

Since it takes 2 gallons of milk to eat 24 bowls of cereal, set up the ratio and simplify:

(2) 2/24 (GCF is 2, so divide numerator and denominator to find simplest form)

(3) 1/12

Therefore, John uses 1/12 of a gallon of milk in each bowl of cereal.

Domain: Grade 7 >> The Number System

Sample Question: Ricky purchased shoes for $159.95 and then exchanged them at a buy 1, get 1 half off sale. The shoes that he purchased on his return trip were $74.99 and $68.55. How much did he receive back from the store after his second transaction?

  1. $37.50
  2. $68.55
  3. $34.28
  4. $50.68

Answer Explanation: On his second trip to the store he paid $74.99 plus half of $68.55.

$74.99 + $34.28 = $109.27

$159.95 – 109.27 = $50.68

$50.68 is the correct answer.

Sample Question: Which of the following statements correctly describes this expression?

2x + 4

  1. Four times a number plus two
  2. Two more than four times a number
  3. Four more than twice a number

Domain: Grade 7 >> Geometry

Sample Question: If the sides of two similar figures have a similarity ratio of 3/2 , what is the ratio
of their areas?

  1. 9/4
  2. 3/2
  3. 1/3
  4. 3/1

Answer Explanation: If the similarity ratio is 3/2, then the ratio of the areas is the square of that ratio:3/2 × 3/2 = 9/4.

Domain: Grade 7 >> Statistics & Probability

Sample Question: Which of the following does not represent a way of avoiding bias in survey results?

  1. Use neutral words in the questions asked
  2. Ensure a random sample of the population
  3. Only survey individuals that will answer a certain way
  4. Tailor the conclusions based on survey results, not previous thoughts

Answer Explanation: Bias in collecting data can be caused by using questions where there are likely to be assumptions made or factors that influence the data. A survey that asks questions that cause individuals to answer in a certain way makes assumptions and influences the outcome of the data. Therefore, using that type of survey does not avoid bias.
