00:12	about the state of Vermont , you're going to learn
00:15	so much about the state of Vermont , it's gonna
00:18	be awesome . The first thing we want to discover
00:23	about Vermont is where it is . Here is the
00:26	United States map now , where is the state of
00:30	Vermont ? Do you know where is Vermont ? Yeah
00:39	, Vermont is way up here in the northeastern corner
00:42	of the Continental United States , Vermont is in a
00:46	region of the United States called New England . New
00:53	England is a unique region of the United States with
00:56	six states in it . We're going to look at
00:59	each of the six states that make up the region
01:02	of New England . At the top of the New
01:06	England region is the state of Maine . Then just
01:13	below Main is New Hampshire , The and next to
01:18	New Hampshire is the state of Vermont , the state
01:20	that this video is all about . Then Below Vermont
01:26	and new Hampshire is the state of massachusetts and then
01:31	below massachusetts are the states of Rhode island and Connecticut
01:37	. Those are the six states that are part of
01:40	the New England region . To review , Vermont is
01:47	way up here in the northeastern corner of the Continental
01:50	United States in a region of the United States called
01:54	New England . Mhm . Now it's time to learn
01:59	even more about Vermont as we look at the main
02:02	nickname of the state . The main nickname of the
02:08	state of Vermont is the Green Mountain State . Yeah
02:12	, the Green Mountain State . You might be wondering
02:17	why is Vermont called the Green Mountain State ? Why
02:21	is it called the Green Mountain State ? Well ,
02:26	the nickname goes back to this guy , a guy
02:29	named Sam , well do Sean plan . Yeah ,
02:34	he was a french explorer that lived way back in
02:37	the 16 hundreds . That was a long time ago
02:42	. Now , catch this , This is interesting .
02:45	In 16 47 he found the mountains of Vermont and
02:49	called them Vahrd mont , which means Green Mountain ,
02:55	as you might have guessed . This is where the
02:59	state of Vermont got its name from . Its just
03:04	an english version of verdi mont , they just squish
03:07	them together . Vermont , you know , it's pretty
03:10	cool , good job saying , well , he was
03:15	right , the mountains do look green . In fact
03:17	, the Green Mountains are a mountain range in Vermont
03:24	, the Green Mountains are a part of a larger
03:27	mountain range called the Appalachian Mountains . And get a
03:33	load of this . The Appalachian mountains stretched from Canada
03:36	all the way down to Alabama in the southern part
03:41	of the United States . Oh my goodness ! So
03:47	Vermont is the Green Mountain State because Vermont has Green
03:51	Mountains and has the Green Mountain Range inside of the
03:55	state . And that's actually where Vermont got its name
03:58	from originally . The Green Mountain State is so beautiful
04:04	. Now we're going to take a few moments and
04:06	look at the flag of the Green Mountain State ,
04:09	Vermont , Yeah , Tara , the flag of the
04:15	State of Vermont , this is the fourth state flag
04:21	that Vermont has had and there are talks that they
04:23	might change it again . So for right now this
04:26	is the flag of the state of Vermont . It
04:32	is a blue flag with the state coat of arms
04:35	in the middle . The center of the shield features
04:40	a pine tree that represents Vermont's forests , the cow
04:44	and the wheat represents the dairy and agricultural businesses and
04:50	the deer represents Vermont's wildlife . You might notice as
04:54	well that the Green Mountains are in the background .
04:58	The model of the state Freedom and unity is also
05:01	on the flag . Great ! Now we are going
05:07	to locate two major cities in Vermont , the first
05:10	places in the center of the state . It's the
05:12	city of Montpellier . Montpellier is the capital of Vermont
05:20	. Then northwest of Montpellier is the city of Burlington
05:24	. Burlington is the largest city in Vermont . Yeah
05:30	, okay , here's our final question . What is
05:33	the state bird of Vermont ? The state bird of
05:39	Vermont is the hermit thrush . Uh huh , hermit
05:43	thrush . These are cute medium sized birds that like
05:49	to stay low to the ground . In fact ,
05:53	they like to build nests in the lower branches or
05:56	stay on the forest floor . And they're cute little
05:59	nests are shaped like cups . Thanks for watching his
