00:01 | Mhm Okay , today we are going to learn about
00:13 | division , ha ha ! You're gonna learn how to
00:15 | divide and it's gonna be so cool , you're gonna
00:17 | be like , what ? Division is so much fun
00:22 | . But first we want to hear from you ,
00:24 | 10 year old sienna from Las Vegas , watched our
00:27 | pronoun video and said , I love the video on
00:30 | pronouns , thank you so much . You are very
00:33 | welcome , we're so glad you enjoyed it . Mm
00:36 | Mrs Gutierrez is second grade class from riverside California ,
00:42 | watched our fractions video and said , thank you for
00:44 | helping us with fractions , not a problem , aren't
00:47 | fractions awesome . And finally , six year old Brent
00:53 | from Ohio had a joke for us and said ,
00:55 | why couldn't the farmer sleep ? Because the cows were
00:59 | saying moo Yeah , that would keep you up .
01:05 | That was so cool . Be sure . And watch
01:08 | this video to the end to learn how you two
01:10 | could be featured on one of our videos . Well
01:16 | , as we mentioned earlier , today , we are
01:19 | going to learn about division . Division is such an
01:22 | awesome thing to be able to do . And you're
01:25 | going to have it all figured out you're gonna learn
01:27 | how to divide in this video . We're gonna start
01:31 | off with a story . There's this kid named Ethan
01:34 | and Ethan loves carrots . He loves carrots so much
01:39 | , he loves to stack on him . He loves
01:41 | when he gets to eat them . They're crunchy .
01:43 | They're tasty . Yeah , carrots are awesome . In
01:48 | fact , I'm literally eating a carrot right now .
01:51 | As I'm speaking , carrots are great for your skin
01:54 | . Carrots are great for your eyes , they're amazing
01:56 | . You're a great snack and Ethan loves them .
02:01 | Well , Ethan has two friends over kevin and Chloe
02:05 | and they start to get hungry . Mm Of course
02:11 | they all love carrots because carrots are like the perfect
02:14 | snack . Now in Ethan is house , there are
02:17 | only three carrots , they're just three carats . We
02:22 | are going to have to divide the three carats amongst
02:26 | the three kids . So let's figure this out .
02:30 | How many carats does each kid get ? Do you
02:33 | know ? Uh huh . Each kid gets one carat
02:40 | pretty simple , right ? Three carats , Three kids
02:44 | . Each kid gets one carrot . Hey , did
02:49 | you know we just did division ? Uh huh .
02:52 | We just did division . Mm . Division is pretty
02:56 | simple . You see division is splitting a number up
03:00 | by any given number . That's it . Just splitting
03:03 | the number up . Let's look at our story again
03:08 | , there were three carrots and we divided those three
03:11 | carats by three because there are three people , right
03:16 | ? The three kids that love carrots and the answer
03:20 | of how many carats each kid gets is 13 divided
03:25 | by three equals one notice . Right ? Here is
03:32 | the division sign . This is what it looks like
03:35 | . When you see that sign , you could just
03:37 | say divided by . So this reads three divided by
03:41 | three equals one . Yeah , let's try another example
03:47 | of division . Let's say there are eight presents .
03:50 | Eight presents . And there are four women . And
03:53 | we want each of the women to get the same
03:56 | amount of presence as the other women . Because we
03:59 | want it to be fair Notice the division sign .
04:04 | We are going to divide or split up eight x
04:09 | 4 . Remember to divide us to split up .
04:14 | Let's split these presents up into four equal groups .
04:18 | 1234 All right . How many presents does each woman
04:25 | get ? Uh huh . To each woman gets to
04:30 | presents ? Yeah . Isn't that cool ? Division is
04:35 | so much fun and it's so easy . Remember division
04:41 | is splitting a number up by any given number .
04:45 | That's it . Mhm . All right . Now ,
04:50 | it's time for division facts . We're going to learn
04:54 | some pretty interesting facts about division and you're gonna be
04:59 | like oh my goodness like secrets . This is super
05:03 | cool . Okay so just look around all right make
05:06 | sure who's clear ? All right . It's time for
05:10 | division facts . The first fact is this you can
05:19 | never divide by zero . It's true . You can
05:22 | never divide by zero even if you're a rule breaker
05:25 | and you're like I'm gonna do whatever I want .
05:28 | You still can never divide by zero . In fact
05:32 | If a teacher ever gives you a test and you
05:35 | see a problem where you have to divide a number
05:37 | by zero just right on the test undefined because that's
05:43 | exactly what that answer would be undefined . It's impossible
05:47 | . Kind of like Mr Whiskers Math skills does Mr
05:52 | Whiskers do math in his head all day long .
05:55 | Who knows ? His math skills are undefined . We
05:58 | just don't know it's impossible to know . You know
06:01 | Mr Whiskers might know how to do division . Who
06:04 | knows ? Undefined . You can't divide by zero ,
06:08 | you can never divide by zero mm . If you
06:16 | ever see any division problem dividing by zero just right
06:20 | undefined . It's impossible . It's impossible . So just
06:23 | write undefined . The second fact is this you can
06:32 | write the division sign three ways . Uh huh .
06:35 | Not just with that traditional division sign . You can
06:38 | write it like the division sign or you can write
06:42 | a division problem with the slash or with a horizontal
06:46 | line For example look at this 12 divided by three
06:53 | equals four . That's the original division sign . The
06:57 | one that you might see more regularly . Yeah but
07:03 | here is the same equation written in a different way
07:07 | . 12 divided by three equals four . It's still
07:10 | a division sign but it's a slash . It means
07:13 | the same thing as the original division sign . Okay
07:18 | . Remember the division sign can also be a horizontal
07:22 | line . 12 divided by three equals four . That
07:26 | looks like a fraction , doesn't it ? The line
07:28 | in a fraction means divided by these are the three
07:36 | ways that you can write the division sign . Pretty
07:40 | interesting . Alright . The final fact is this ?
07:50 | Okay , this is so awesome . You can flip
07:52 | the number of groups and the number in each group
07:55 | and the division problem stays true . For example 10
08:00 | divided by two equals 5 and you can flip the
08:04 | two and the five and it stays true . Mhm
08:11 | . That means 10 divided by five equals two .
08:14 | Isn't that interesting ? 10 divided by two equals five
08:18 | and 10 divided by five equals two . You can
08:21 | flip the number of groups and the number in each
08:24 | group and it still stays true . Or look at
08:29 | this 18 divided by six equals three . Remember we
08:33 | can flip the number of groups and the number in
08:36 | each group and it still stays true . So we
08:39 | could switch the six and the three and it stays
08:42 | true . So 18 divided by three equals six .
08:48 | The six and the three can be flipped . So
08:51 | 18 divided by six equals three and 18 divided by
08:55 | three equals six . Pretty nifty . Those were some
09:00 | cool facts . You know , division is a great
09:02 | time . Division is splitting a number up by any
09:06 | given number . It's a lot of fun and we
09:09 | hope you learned a whole lot in this video .
09:14 | Hey , thanks for watching homeschool pop . Yeah ,
09:18 | I love carrots . You know , I don't have
09:22 | any friends over today and there are still three carrots
09:24 | left and so three divided by one for just me
09:29 | means that I get that are three garretts . I
09:37 | love carrots . Mhm . So you made it to
09:45 | the end of the video ? You are awesome .
09:48 | Remember the kids comments we promised you we would share
09:52 | how you two could be featured on one of our
09:55 | videos with the help of an adult . Leave your
09:59 | first name , age and where you are from .
10:02 | Along with a comment , you can share a joke
10:04 | , a silly message or just share how much you
10:07 | love us . If you are watching this as a
10:11 | class , you can leave a comment to just share
10:14 | your teacher's name , your grade and where you are
10:17 | from . For a chance to be featured on one
10:19 | of our videos . We hope to hear from you
10:22 | soon . Thanks for watching this video . Trip for
