02:40 | is here . Fantastic . So again this week I'm
02:43 | going to talk about these , I called this lesson
02:46 | emphasis words to make it a little maybe easier to
02:49 | understand . We're going to talk about intensive fires today
02:53 | . These words , So let's look at today's lesson
02:57 | boards . I think today's lesson boards are very easy
03:01 | to understand . I'm going to talk about some small
03:05 | , um , some small points inside these today .
03:07 | So this is our flow today . We're going to
03:10 | talk about so versus two in part one here ,
03:13 | Very versus really in part two and then we're going
03:17 | to talk about way and such not versus just some
03:21 | different uh , some different words you can use .
03:24 | Okay . So let's get started . Alright ? Also
03:28 | if you haven't , please , please please make sure
03:30 | to like this video and share it so other people
03:33 | can find today's lesson , it helps us , uh
03:36 | , to get more people watching . I'm going to
03:38 | share it real quick . Okay , shared . Okay
03:42 | then I'll start today's lesson . Let's begin with .
03:46 | Where is it ? Very and really I said very
03:48 | and really would be the first one I think .
03:50 | Right ? Uh No I said so and to okay
03:52 | let's start with so and to sow and two .
03:55 | Okay let's begin with . So and to I put
04:00 | these together because I see a lot of mistakes made
04:03 | with these two words with with so and to first
04:09 | let's look at how we use them . I included
04:12 | a basic use and today I'm including some casual uses
04:17 | that you might hear in media . I wanted to
04:20 | talk about these uses because they're so so common .
04:24 | And I get lots of questions from learners about the
04:27 | grammar of these sentences . So first the basic use
04:30 | of so before an adjective or adverb is like this
04:36 | for example , that was so funny . So that
04:39 | was funny is also correct of course , but you
04:42 | want to express the level of funny was higher .
04:46 | Yeah That was so funny . We use so to
04:51 | emphasise or like to intensify , right to intensify to
04:55 | make funny more intense . We use so plus adjective
05:00 | in this case so funny or before an adverb .
05:03 | Remember an adverb tells us something about a about a
05:08 | verb , right ? How we do some verb .
05:11 | So for example , example , you sing so beautifully
05:16 | , you sing so beautifully . So this is the
05:19 | basic use of so right , we have more intense
05:24 | adjectives are adjectives are like emphasized so so of course
05:29 | we can use so to connect our ideas . Yes
05:32 | , that's a different use of So but today I'm
05:35 | not going to focus on that kind of So let's
05:39 | look at these next two examples . These next two
05:43 | I marked here with this star casual , casual .
05:46 | So this means maybe you haven't seen this at a
05:49 | textbook . Maybe you have . I don't know .
05:51 | So what's happening here ? The first pattern here is
05:55 | so plus maybe not . You can use this in
05:58 | a negative pattern and then an I N G verb
06:03 | . So what does this look like ? For example
06:06 | , we are so going to that party . We
06:09 | are so going to that party or in a negative
06:14 | . I am so not wearing this shirt , I
06:17 | am so not wearing this shirt . What does this
06:20 | mean ? Okay , so here we have so before
06:25 | the verb in this case a positive , we are
06:27 | so going to that party . This sentence shows the
06:31 | speaker really , really , really wants to go to
06:34 | the party . So yes , you can say we
06:38 | are going to that party . But we are so
06:41 | going to that party shows the speaker has very strong
06:45 | feelings about that decision . So this so mix this
06:51 | decision , this choice more intense . We are so
06:55 | going to that party here is a negative example .
07:00 | I am so not wearing this shirt . I'm so
07:03 | not wearing this shirt . So for example , someone
07:06 | like maybe your relative gives you a weird shirt and
07:09 | you try it on and you think this looks really
07:12 | strange . You could say I am so not wearing
07:15 | this shirt . This shows you have a strong feeling
07:19 | about this choice or this decision . Again , I
07:23 | am not wearing this shirt . We can use the
07:25 | progressive to show a strong decision . Yes , that's
07:29 | one of the uses of the I N . G
07:31 | form . I'm not wearing this shirt , that's a
07:33 | strong decision . But if you use , I am
07:36 | so not wearing this shirt , it makes it casual
07:40 | and it expresses you have made a strong decision .
07:43 | Okay . Subha Smita Pattana on Youtube says he is
07:49 | so playing the field . Good one , good one
07:52 | , good one , good expression . Nice example .
07:54 | Okay . Uh , if you have other examples ,
07:57 | send them in the chat . I'll try to check
07:59 | them live . Uh , tanking . Can we say
08:02 | this ? It so means , um , I don't
08:05 | think so . I'm not quite sure what you're trying
08:08 | to say there , but that , that little phrase
08:11 | . No , that would be incorrect . Okay .
08:15 | I'm looking Conway says we are so not going to
08:19 | work on this project . Very nice . Very nice
08:22 | . Okay . Miguel says , I am so full
08:24 | . I ate too much . Good . That's the
08:26 | basic use here . Okay . Uh , good .
08:29 | And people are right comments about appearance . Yeah .
08:32 | So pretty . So beautiful . These kinds of words
08:35 | . Yeah . These things are the basic use here
08:38 | . Very nice . Okay , that looks good .
08:41 | Let's go to this last casual use of . So
08:44 | then , yeah . What is this ? So ,
08:48 | so it's a connection . This use is so plus
08:53 | a noun . so plus a noun . And often
08:57 | the noun is a person . Or maybe it's like
09:01 | a location or it's an experience . So what does
09:06 | this mean ? When we use this pattern ? It
09:09 | means something is like that . Now , for example
09:13 | , that dress is so you that dress is so
09:17 | you , that means that dress matches you really well
09:22 | or it looks like something you like . Like I
09:26 | saw that dress and I thought my friend would probably
09:31 | like that dress . That dress is so you ,
09:33 | it matches your personality , it matches your style .
09:37 | Okay , another example , this song is so high
09:41 | school . This song is so high school . So
09:45 | what does this mean ? It means I heard a
09:47 | song I'm listening to a song now and it makes
09:52 | me it causes me to remember my high school experience
09:56 | or the song was popular when I was in high
09:59 | school . Okay , This song is so high school
10:03 | . So this use of so means the noun here
10:09 | and the now and here have some kind of connection
10:12 | our relationship . So , again , this is a
10:15 | very casual use of So , so that's so you
10:20 | that's what this one means . Okay , get all
10:23 | right . Very nice question . Example sentences . Plu
10:28 | feel pious says I'm so eating tuna today . That's
10:32 | very specific . Nice job . Very nice job .
10:34 | Uh , Bishop says , I'm so make sure I'm
10:37 | so not going to that part if you want to
10:41 | use this pattern . Great . Make sure this not
10:44 | comes before the verb . So not isn't before .
10:48 | So here , not as before the verb , then
10:51 | it's perfect . Okay . All right , victor .
10:54 | You play piano . So beautiful . So , if
10:57 | you want to use this one , make sure beautifully
11:02 | . That's the adverb , beautifully , beautifully beautiful .
11:06 | Is the adjective . Okay , okay , we have
11:09 | to finish this part . Let's take a short break
11:12 | and then we'll go to part two . Okay ?
11:15 | So if you missed it earlier there is . If
11:17 | you click the link below the video here , uh
11:20 | 35% off our study our courses , I'm gonna show
11:25 | you know uh I'm gonna show you know this I
11:27 | showed you earlier . I'll scroll back up . If
11:30 | you click the link below the video . If you're
11:32 | watching on Youtube or above the video , if you're
11:35 | watching on facebook you will find this page , you
11:38 | can find all the different uh study plans we have
11:42 | with different study tools and study resources . So check
11:46 | this out if you would like to study with us
11:48 | . Uh There are many different options that you can
11:51 | choose from , so all the details are here ,
11:54 | you can take a look at that and study with
11:57 | us if you want to get our lessons . Okay
12:00 | . Cool . Alright . Let's go to part two
12:03 | then . Also if you haven't , please make sure
12:05 | to hit the like button So other people can find
12:08 | today's lesson and of course share this video if you
12:11 | haven't already . I shared it . Okay , let's
12:13 | go to part two . Oh , uh yeah .
12:16 | At the end we're going to cover common . Well
12:19 | , maybe a little bit later . We'll cover some
12:21 | common mistakes that I've noticed between these two . So
12:25 | let's take a look at the next pair at the
12:28 | next pair . Very and really , I have a
12:32 | video about this on the Youtube channel . That is
12:35 | very popular . Many people have this question . So
12:39 | very and really these are very similar words . Let's
12:44 | talk about the difference . So , very . How
12:49 | do we use Very we can use very plus an
12:52 | adjective or an adverb . We just use this with
12:56 | so and with two as well . All right .
12:59 | So there is some there are some cases where we
13:02 | can use these words in the same way , but
13:05 | not all of it . For example , that movie
13:08 | was very scary . That movie was very scary .
13:12 | Okay , So very comes before my adjective scary .
13:17 | That movie was very scary . Okay . And she
13:21 | is very smart . She is very smart . Great
13:25 | . Okay . Now , a point here , I
13:29 | have two negative sentences here . My neighbors are not
13:34 | very nice . My neighbors are not very nice .
13:38 | And this recipe wasn't so was not was not very
13:44 | good . This recipe was not very good . This
13:47 | is an important point with very we tend to use
13:51 | very to express these negative ideas . Right ? So
13:55 | , my neighbors are very nice . Is a good
13:58 | thing , right ? My neighbors are not very nice
14:01 | is a bad thing . Right ? When you want
14:04 | to express that negative opinion , you do that with
14:08 | Very , very we don't do that with . Really
14:12 | . That's a key difference here . Okay , finally
14:16 | , one more example . This one is an adverb
14:18 | . He runs very fast or he runs very quickly
14:21 | also . Okay , so remember this key difference between
14:25 | vary and really , if you want to express this
14:28 | negative with not do that with Very . Okay .
14:34 | Alright , Let's go on to the next one .
14:38 | Really , really so with this one again , we
14:42 | have this pattern really plus our adjective or adverb .
14:46 | This book is really interesting . This book is really
14:49 | interesting adjective and she works really slow . Okay ,
14:55 | so again , this use is the same . We
14:58 | could use vary in these sentences . This book is
15:01 | very interesting where she works very slow . Both their
15:04 | friends , you could use somebody asked what's the difference
15:07 | between ? So here we can use so in these
15:10 | as well , that movie was so scary . She's
15:13 | so smart . Or this book is so interesting .
15:16 | We can use so in these cases we cannot use
15:20 | to we cannot use too . Okay . Alright .
15:24 | Some examples are coming in with very uh Okay ,
15:29 | good . So everyone , everyone's been very nice to
15:32 | me . Thank you for your nice comments . Okay
15:35 | . He talks really fast . Is another good one
15:37 | on Youtube . Okay , nice . Now , key
15:40 | points here with really we can use really with verbs
15:46 | . We tend to see it with like emotion verbs
15:49 | like like or love or hate . Uh and sometimes
15:53 | with like uh like uh personal body related actions like
15:57 | eating or drinking for example , I really like healthy
16:02 | food . I really like healthy food here really comes
16:08 | before my verb . Yeah , I really like I
16:10 | really like are here for emphasis , wow , you
16:15 | really sleep a lot . You really sleep a lot
16:19 | . So you may see really used in this way
16:22 | to show some kind of intensity about the verb it
16:26 | follows . We cannot do this with very we cannot
16:30 | do this with So so you may see really used
16:34 | in this way . We tend yeah . As I
16:36 | said , we tend to use this pattern for talking
16:39 | about things we like or we love we hate dislike
16:43 | , I really hate that thing . I really hate
16:46 | that food . So we can do this with really
16:51 | okay , what's the difference between too expensive and so
16:55 | expensive ? Yeah , let's see . I have a
16:57 | little bit of time . So let's quickly I've talked
17:01 | about some of the differences between uh these so so
17:07 | and very and really share the usage . Yeah ,
17:11 | the first usage so with an adjective or an adverb
17:15 | . Yes , we share those . However , one
17:19 | huge difference here is that this too . This to
17:25 | that I talked about has a negative field . So
17:28 | it means this adjective that follows is like uh I
17:36 | covered this right . I did talk to you about
17:38 | to write , I talked about . So did I
17:40 | talk about two earlier ? Did I skip it earlier
17:43 | ? I feel like I skipped it . Actually .
17:44 | Let's talk about two . I skipped it . Did
17:47 | and I got so wrapped up and so okay ,
17:50 | let's talk about two . My bad . Sorry everybody
17:52 | . So let's talk about two . We've talked about
17:55 | very , really and so so let's cover this two
17:59 | point now . So what is the difference two expresses
18:04 | that something is more than is necessary . So we
18:09 | can use it in the same grammar pattern . Yes
18:12 | . two plus an adjective or two plus an adverb
18:16 | . And that means that it's more than is necessary
18:19 | . Okay , so for example this is too expensive
18:24 | . This is too expensive . That means this price
18:27 | like I have , I have an amount I want
18:30 | to pay . This price is more than that .
18:33 | This is too expensive . So to communicate that negative
18:38 | feeling right ? Another one he speaks too quickly .
18:44 | He speaks too quickly . Here too , is before
18:48 | an advert . So that means my pace , the
18:51 | pace I want to listen to here . His pace
18:55 | . His speaking pace is here . So it's more
18:58 | than is needed . It's a bad thing . We
19:00 | used to to express that . Okay , so this
19:06 | point right here is where I see many mistakes ,
19:10 | especially in your comments in the Youtube comments or facebook
19:13 | comments in chat comments . I see lots of learners
19:17 | use to when they don't want to use to .
19:21 | So for example , a great example of a common
19:24 | mistake . One time a someone wrote a comment about
19:28 | like earrings , I saw a comment about earrings .
19:31 | The person said your earrings are too big , too
19:35 | big . That sounds negative , right ? It sounds
19:38 | negative the person wanted to use . So your earrings
19:43 | are so big to make a comment or to share
19:46 | a simple opinion about the earrings . So please remember
19:51 | if you use too it expresses a negative idea .
19:56 | Okay , so this is a huge , huge ,
19:59 | huge issue . I see for many learners . Finally
20:02 | , final point about two . We used to with
20:06 | much and many . I covered countable and uncountable noun
20:10 | in last week's lesson . Yeah . If you watched
20:12 | so there's too much or too many has the same
20:16 | feeling like it's something negative . Like you have too
20:21 | much stuff , you have too much stuff , so
20:24 | too much much is used because stuff is uncountable .
20:28 | You have too much stuff , please clean up your
20:30 | room , throw some things away or with accountable now
20:34 | in this case pizzas we bought too many pizzas .
20:38 | We have too much food so you can use too
20:41 | much and too many before . Countable and uncountable .
20:45 | Now again key point with two . It sounds negative
20:49 | , it sounds negative so please remember this . Okay
20:52 | sorry I skipped to before I guess I was excited
20:55 | about so . Okay . Alright great . So that's
20:59 | part one and part two for today's lesson . Good
21:03 | . We have a little bit of time left so
21:05 | we'll go to the final part now way and such
21:11 | way and such lots of people are like what is
21:15 | way ? I've never seen way used before . Oh
21:18 | before I go to this there are a couple of
21:20 | questions in here . Um Can I say I'm very
21:25 | attractive . Yes you can . It sounds very confident
21:27 | but great . Okay . Uh Can L . G
21:30 | . Says friends live too far from my house ?
21:32 | That is correct . You have too many problems in
21:35 | your life ? Okay . Good , correct . When
21:37 | do we use so called ? So called ? Is
21:40 | a different use of so I'm not going to talk
21:42 | about today . You use basically so called is used
21:46 | to refer to something that maybe is called by one
21:51 | name but has other names . Kind of . So
21:54 | it's different from today's topic . Okay . Giancarlo can
22:00 | I use Very very I know I can't think of
22:04 | a situation we sometimes use . That was very very
22:07 | very very good . If you really want to make
22:10 | something intense . Yeah you can do that but generally
22:13 | we don't so much . Okay good . I don't
22:17 | see other questions . Let's go to uh this last
22:20 | part way . Most people , well a lot of
22:23 | people say what is what is way we can use
22:27 | this as an intensifier . Huh ? Way . This
22:32 | I've marked here with casual , casual way is a
22:35 | very , very casual intensifier . Typically we pair we
22:41 | put together way with too much or too many patterns
22:46 | or a two adjective patterns . So we just talked
22:51 | about too much and too many or too adjective ,
22:55 | right ? We use way before that to make it
23:00 | even more intense . Okay , so some examples ,
23:06 | I ain't way too much at dinner . I ate
23:09 | way too much at dinner . And you have way
23:14 | too many movies . You have way too many movies
23:17 | . Okay , so this sentence I ate too much
23:21 | at dinner and this sentence , you have too many
23:24 | movies . These sentences are perfect . 100 correct if
23:29 | we add way this too many or there's too much
23:34 | . These parts become more intense . So I ate
23:38 | too much at dinner . Sounds negative , right ?
23:41 | I eat too much at dinner . I ate way
23:44 | too much at dinner , increases the negative feeling .
23:48 | Oh , I feel really , really sick . That
23:51 | was really bad . So , way helps us do
23:55 | this way too much at dinner . We cannot use
23:58 | very , we cannot use so we cannot use really
24:01 | hear it really too much . I ate so too
24:04 | much . I ate very too much , cannot use
24:07 | these . We cannot use these . This is the
24:10 | intensifier , like the intensifier intensifier we use here .
24:15 | Okay , so remember , this is very casual .
24:18 | We would not use this in a polite or a
24:21 | business situation generally . Okay , alright , onward .
24:27 | So here again , I said , we can use
24:29 | this pattern with other two plus adjective situations like I
24:34 | cut my hair way too short , I cut my
24:37 | hair way too short or you took way too long
24:41 | to get here . You took way too long to
24:44 | get here . So we can use to plus another
24:47 | adjective other than these patterns . Yeah . Again though
24:53 | , please remember we talked about these 22 patterns earlier
24:57 | and to create that negative feeling so too short .
25:02 | That's a bad thing . Too long . That's a
25:04 | bad thing . So way emphasizes that negativity . Yeah
25:09 | . So these are for negative situations . Okay .
25:14 | All right . Farook Gunner on facebook says way is
25:19 | used for time and to express quantity . It can
25:22 | be used for all of those things like for time
25:26 | you took way too long or that took way too
25:29 | long or way too much time . So yes ,
25:32 | you can use it for time or for quantities .
25:35 | But again , please remember negative . It sounds negative
25:39 | . Using it with too much too many and so
25:41 | on . Okay . All right , let's go to
25:44 | the last point . Time is almost finished . Such
25:48 | such . I see lots of issues with such relating
25:51 | to articles . So let's cover such . What is
25:55 | the deal ? What is such ? Okay , so
25:57 | here's the basic pattern for such for emphasis . We
26:02 | have such plus uh , or an depending on the
26:06 | word that follows adjective now . So yes , you
26:11 | can remove this adjective in some cases , but we
26:15 | generally uh , we generally see it with an adjective
26:19 | . Okay , for example , it's such a beautiful
26:23 | day . It's such a beautiful day . Such comes
26:29 | before this phrase right here . So we have the
26:32 | adjective and a noun together . It's such a beautiful
26:36 | day . We cannot use very , we cannot say
26:39 | it's very a beautiful day , nope , or really
26:42 | nope , nope , not . So either we could
26:45 | say it's a very beautiful day . That's fine .
26:50 | Right before the adjective . But such , we have
26:53 | to make a different style sentence or a different sentence
26:56 | structure when we use such another one . College is
27:01 | such an exciting time . College is such an exciting
27:07 | time . So such comes before and in this case
27:11 | and is used because I have a vowel sound here
27:15 | . College is such an exciting time and finally plural
27:20 | . These are such beautiful flowers . These are such
27:25 | beautiful flowers . No article here because we're using a
27:30 | plural now . These are such beautiful flowers . So
27:35 | such gives emphasis again , so it intensifies it .
27:39 | So these are beautiful flowers , perfectly correct . These
27:42 | are such beautiful flowers . It makes the statement more
27:46 | intense . Okay . All right . I don't see
27:52 | questions yet . People say people are very nice things
27:55 | . It's such an amazing day . Good or you're
27:57 | such a good teacher . Great . Great . Okay
28:00 | . Uh someone right . Stop texting and focus on
28:03 | the video was texting . Okay , are you are
28:06 | you mad at me for watching the I'm watching the
28:08 | comments talking on facebook too . I'm watching to live
28:11 | streams at the same time . Okay . You can
28:15 | just also mean really . My first answer is no
28:21 | . Unless you have a very specific example . No
28:25 | , my first answer would be no . Okay .
28:27 | All right . But that is the end we have
28:31 | to finish there for today . So I hope you
28:33 | found some points that you can think about especially with
28:37 | so and to please please please be careful with so
28:40 | and to Okay , so I'll show you today's lesson
28:44 | boards again so you can take a picture here you
28:46 | are . We talked about the differences between Seoul and
28:50 | to very and really And then we talked about way
28:54 | and such . Maybe just a final point to end
28:58 | on . There are other words , a lot of
29:00 | other intensifier words like extremely or like like incredibly these
29:07 | kinds of words we have lots and lots of them
29:10 | and we use them in most in most cases like
29:14 | very yeah so we can choose different words like extremely
29:18 | for example to use in the same way as very
29:21 | . It's just up to you to find the ones
29:23 | that you like . Okey dokey . Uh let's go
