00:10	America . How does it work the different years and
00:13	everything ? That's a great question . The UK system
00:18	is confusing for me . I don't know how it
00:21	works , but the american system is pretty easy to
00:24	me . So first of all we have elementary school
00:28	, okay Elementary school which is first grade , 2nd
00:32	, 3rd , 4th , 5th and 6th grade .
00:34	This is elementary school . All right . We can
00:38	say elementary school , we can say primary school .
00:42	We can also say grade school , same thing ,
00:45	grade school , elementary school , primary school , first
00:48	through sixth grades . Now where I went to school
00:52	then we had junior high , junior high and it's
00:57	actually junior high school . But we always said junior
01:03	high . Another name for junior high would be middle
01:06	school . Oops , middle school . Middle school is
01:13	another term now where I went middle school or junior
01:17	high was seventh grade and eighth grade . So we
01:21	can also say seventh grade , fourth grade , eighth
01:27	grade and then where I went to school , we
01:30	had high school , next was high school . And
01:33	we said , we don't just say hi . We
01:35	say high school . So elementary school , junior high
01:40	High School and High School was 9th grade , 10th
01:44	Grade , 11th Grade and 12th Grade . Mhm .
01:48	Uh , Now ninth grade , 10th grade , 11th
01:51	grade , 12th grade . There's another name that we
01:54	say for high school . Ninth grade is also the
01:56	same as freshmen . 10th grade is Sophomore . Now
02:03	look at the spelling , the spelling is softball more
02:07	, but the pronunciation is sophomore , sophomore , sophomore
02:12	, then it's junior and then it's senior . Okay
02:19	. So I was a freshman when I was a
02:22	freshman , I was 15 years old . When I
02:25	was a sophomore , I was 16 years old .
02:28	When I was a junior , I was 17 years
02:30	old . And when I was a senior , I
02:33	was 18 years old . In America . When you're
02:36	a sophomore you get your driver's license , which is
02:40	great . So when I was a sophomore , junior
02:43	and senior I drove to school , we had a
02:46	parking lot . I like that . Now some schools
02:51	where my mother went to school , they also had
02:55	junior high , but my mother's junior high was actually
03:00	seventh grade , eighth grade and ninth grade . And
03:04	my mother , she didn't go to high school .
03:06	She went to a senior high and the senior high
03:12	Was 10th grade , 11th grade and 12th grade .
03:16	Okay . So actually people at the middle school were
03:23	the freshman and the last year freshman and the senior
03:27	high , it was only sophomores , juniors and seniors
03:30	. Okay , so some schools do have slightly different
03:36	method . So in America , according to the law
03:39	, you must go through all 12 years of school
03:43	and public schools are free . Yeah , they're free
03:49	. Of course . There are expenses that you can
03:51	find bands and uniforms and stuff like that , but
03:57	books and tuition are free . Now . We also
04:00	have something called kindergarten kindergarten . So when you're 56
04:05	years old , you go to kindergarten and this is
04:08	just a half day of school , you don't do
04:11	anything . You're saying you play , you make pictures
04:16	for half a day and then you know , 67
04:18	years old , first grade and then 12 years old
04:22	for me . I'm just using my ages 12 ,
04:25	13 , 12 years I was sixth grade and then
04:27	whatever . Uh so this is it . Nowadays they
04:31	also have preschool preschool . Preschool is gonna be for
04:36	the three year olds and four year olds . So
04:40	if you're a working parent , mom , dad ,
04:43	working parents , preschool is good . It's also usually
04:46	a half a day . Uh instead of preschool ,
04:49	Sometimes they call it a day care , but daycare
04:53	, this can be one word . Daycare can even
04:55	be younger , one years old , two years old
04:58	, three years old . And they really do nothing
05:02	but art , things like that , silly things .
05:05	So this is uh typical school now college , we
05:11	have a city college . We can also call it
05:19	a technical school or a technical college in a community
05:22	college . So city technical community uh College . Okay
05:32	. And these are all two years . There are
05:34	usually two years sometimes longer . Uh They take two
05:38	years to finish . We don't say freshman sophomore junior
05:42	senior . We don't say that . We say first
05:44	year students , second year student . Um And these
05:47	people usually study a specific job , so a specific
05:52	area . Then we have the university now in America
05:56	. When we say university , we also say college
06:00	. It's the same thing in America because a university
06:04	is made up of college colleges , the College of
06:09	Sciences , the College of Engineering , the College of
06:13	Medicine , the College of Sociology . There are many
06:17	different colleges . So I say I went to college
06:22	. I actually went to the university , University of
06:24	Minnesota , but I just say I went to college
06:27	. That's what we say in America . Where did
06:29	you go to college ? I went to Harvard .
06:31	Where did you go to college ? I went to
06:33	the University of Minnesota same thing . Okay , so
06:36	if somebody asks you , where did you go to
06:38	college ? You can say , oh , I went
06:40	to the , wherever it was now . Universities have
06:46	this system , the four years system . So in
06:49	the university I'm a freshman . I'm a sophomore .
06:54	I'm a junior , I'm a senior . Okay ,
06:57	we do have this for me . When I went
07:03	to college , I was , I was , I'm
07:07	a genius . I actually finished college in three years
07:11	, so I never used these titles . I never
07:17	said I was a freshman , I was a sophomore
07:19	. I never said it . Nobody called me it
07:21	. I finished fast . Most americans plan to finish
07:28	in four , but usually it takes them five years
07:32	, even six years to finish . So most americans
07:38	, I think my sister finished in four years ,
07:40	freshman , sophomore , junior senior . I think the
07:43	majority of americans finish in five years . And what
07:46	they'll say is I'm 1/5 year senior or I'm 1/5
07:50	year student . I'm 1/6 year student , I'm 1/6
07:54	year senior . This is the idea on what many
07:57	university students will say after the university , we have
08:01	grad school grad school , which is graduate school .
08:08	This is where you get your master's degree , MBA
08:11	M A . M . S , Masters of Science
08:14	, masters of Arts or masters of business administration .
08:18	There are many types of master's programs . Master's programs
08:23	. Grad school usually is between two and three years
08:27	. Then there's post graduate school . Post grad post
08:32	graduate school . This is for your PhD , okay
08:37	PhD or doctorate and post grad can last three years
08:43	4 years , five years , 6 years . It
08:47	can last a long time depending on what you study
08:50	what your research is . So For me , what
08:55	did I do ? I started at K . I
08:58	went k through 12 , K through 12 that I
09:02	went to the university . I did all four years
09:04	but I did it in three years and I started
09:07	graduate school and I got a year and a semester
09:12	into graduate school . And then I was forced to
09:17	leave graduate school because I did not have the appropriate
09:23	visa . I lived in Korea and my passport documentation
09:29	did not actually allow me to go to school .
09:33	Isn't that crazy ? But that's what happened . So
09:38	I could not graduate . I was studying the NBA
09:41	but I didn't finish . Will I go back now
09:45	? No need no need to go back . Uh
09:48	I would love to go to a university and study
09:52	history or something interesting like that , but for a
09:55	degree , no , I don't need a Master's degree
09:58	or a PhD I'm happy being a coach . I
10:02	like being a coach . Um So yeah , this
10:05	is the school system in America . I hope that
10:08	makes sense . If you have a question about this
