You have probably heard of the Apple company because you or a family member are probably using one or more Apple products. Apple products include the iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac computer, Apple Watch wristwatch, the iTunes music app, the Siri “personal assistant” and several other products. Steve Jobs is the most famous of the three people who founded Apple Inc.
It is obvious by the number of people who use Apple products that Apple is a very successful company. What made it so successful? Steve Jobs was a primary reason. He was a visionary who saw product possibilities that others did not see. He also was able to focus not only on the big issues facing a company but also on seemingly tiny details, such as how to design features of a product that users would find it easy to use. And his focus was not on making money; instead his focus was on making the world a better place by bringing value to society (through innovative products).
For example, the company no longer saw people chained to a desk to do their work. It saw work (and play!) being done in the living room, on a beanbag, in a park, or in the sky.1 Apple also focused on making their products easy to use or “user friendly.” The graphics capabilities were better than competitors’ products. And the iPhone’s features allowed users to do so much, such as access the internet, listen to or read and send text and voice messages, and take photographs of good quality. And the ability of Apple products to share information, between the iPhone and the iPad for example.
