    Blue Hole

Sarah loved to go swimming at the local "Blue Hole" near her grandmother's house. The Blue Hole was nicknamed that because it was so crystal blue year round. It was located at the deep end of a creek bed. Regardless of whether it was winter, spring, summer or fall, the Blue Hole was ice cold, as well.

One early Saturday spring morning, Sarah, her friend Blaire, and her younger cousin Cody, were headed to the Blue Hold on their bikes. The traffic suddenly picked up and the old country gravel road was full of cars and trucks, even a few motorcycles. The kids all pulled off the road and stopped. "What is going on?" asked Sarah. Blaire replied, "I have no clue, no one is hardly ever on this road!" Just then Cody blurted out, "Look up ahead! Everyone is stopping at the Blue Hole. We will never get to swim now!"

Sure enough over 20 to 30 vehicles were stopped ahead and people were scrambling to the creek. "What do you think is happening?" questioned Sarah.

The kids dropped their bikes by the side of the road and ran ahead.

There it was! A baby calf had fallen into the icy Blue Hole and firefighters were struggling to get her out. News reporters were all around, as well. According to the reporter, the calf had been in the creek earlier that morning since before daybreak, but not at the Blue Hole end. The calf had gradually followed other people toward the deep end. Once there, she panicked and was unable to gain footing to get out.

The firefighters had been working to try to lasso her for over 2 hours, and were not having any luck. About that time, everyone heard a loud MOOOO! Over and over again and getting closer! It was the mother cow. She was looking for her baby! Instantly, the calf leaped to the edge of the creek bank. The mother cow came through the bushes rushing toward her baby. She licked and licked on her and the baby leaned against its mother. All was well, safe and sound!

The crowd of bystanders cheered along with Sarah, Blaire and Cody. They went and got their bikes where they had left them. Looking at each other in a confused manner, the friends couldn't decide what to do next. Cody grinned and said, "Enough excitement today, let's just go riding!"
