Lumos Admin Portal Usage for Educators

Administrators have a huge responsibility once a program is purchased. The district and/or campus has dedicated budget funds to help increase student achievement. The district and/or campus administrator is taxed with the implementation success of the program.

Lumos Learning has designed an administrative portal to assist administrators with this task.

Once the program has been purchased, the district/school may determine which staff member oversees the implementation. Those assigned to administrative roles will have their own account set up.

They would log into the program with their id credentials.

Below is a sample of the main admin portal page.

The first view shows the number of teachers and if they are active or not.

By clicking on the % at the bottom of the teacher graph, an administrator can specifically view all teachers actively involved in the program.

By clicking on a teacher’s name, a detailed report can be viewed.

To return to the main admin portal page, simply click on the blue schoolhouse located at the top right corner of your screen.

The next chart shows the number of active students. Note at the top that this can be seen for the past 7 days, one month or a custom view. Custom views are especially beneficial for administrators to see how the teachers and students are best utilizing the Lumos program. By clicking on either the active or inactive number of students, the administrator can readily see program usage and results. The screenshot below shows a list of active students.

In this report, the name of each student, their login, last login date, number of logins, reports, and managing of the account can be viewed and if in blue- accessed.

When clicking on the reports’ icon, the following is visible for each student. Note the report on Andrew. The administrator can see that he needs more work and can notify the teacher to check on any remediation lessons that might be assigned. The administrator may need or want to intervene in terms of teacher accountability, as well.

Digging deeper into a student’s work is also a feature of the Lumos Learning Admin Portal. The screenshots below of Christopher notes more detail when clicking on the blue number under Questions.

Below the administrator will be able to view the number of correct answers, to be graded answers, incorrect answers and if any improvement has been shown. Moving further down the report, the topics are given, the standard covered, the student’s score and any additional recommendations/remediation assignments that need to be completed.

At the bottom of this detailed report, the administrator can view the exact questions that have been asked.

To view the student’s answers on the assignment, the administrator may return to the student report and click on the blue number for correct or incorrect answers. Below is a screenshot with details on incorrect answers. It shows the student’s answer and the correct answer choice. This report is highly beneficial to administrators to share with teachers. It can help determine the class or small group pacing of remediation.

The progress tracker shows how a student’s multiple attempts at a lesson have or have not improved their score and understanding of the content. This student has shown a slight improvement in the latest attempt. The result shows that the teacher has intervened, and/or the remedial lessons have helped the student.

Click on the blue schoolhouse and return to the main admin portal page. Scrolling down the main page, the administrator can see which schools are using the program and how many hours of usage are logged for each school.

The chart to the right shows the Activity Trend since the date of implementation. It is measured in sessions and lessons attempted.

The next chart in pink is the Auto remedial bar graphs by the school. This chart represents how many auto remedial lessons were assigned at each campus.

The Common Key Word chart on the main admin portal page represents the most frequent words that teachers used when searching for additional materials using the EdSearch feature. Districts use this to help determine which areas of staff development or instructional training materials might best benefit the teaching staff.

Scrolling to the bottom of the page, the administrator portal gives an overall use, and understanding of program implementation. Districts have noted this is one of the features most appreciated, as it gives the “at a glance” big picture.

Note above that the custom range can be set and the following information reviewed by campus/school.

  • Most active teacher.
  • Number of times students logged on.
  • Number of lessons assigned.
  • Proficiency levels of classes.

At the bottom of the main admin portal page, the administrator can view assignments made by teachers and levels of proficiency.

Now look at the program components listed in blue on the left side of the admin portal page.

Under Account, My Teachers can be clicked on. This is the same page discussed earlier, as well is the second listing of My Students.

My Programs shows the list of those subscribed content and grade levels that are being used in the district/school. Click on the school and content to be viewed.

In some districts, the administrator of the program, or the assigned administrator at a campus is in charge of student coursework practice assessments. The administrator would then make assignments for the students and/or classes instead of the teacher.

To do so, click on the open-end arrow under assign. Then give the lesson a title, give students helpful hints or reminder and decide on what type of assessment mode you would like for them to take. If you choose remedial, the program automatically assigns grade level lessons to help the students to practice. If you choose auto remedial you can also decide how many grade levels below you want any additional lessons to be should the student not meet the proficiency level set.

As an administrator, you can fill out the type of lesson you want students to take, the teacher, the individual or group of students and make the assignment. Once the assignment is made, it will appear in the student and teacher portal.

Looking further down the left side of the main admin portal page, you will see the Reporting System.

Below you will see the Proficiency Teacher Report that can be viewed by clicking on the blue tab and then selecting which teachers you wish to review.

The next report is the Proficiency Standards Report.

Below is a sample of the type of report an administrator may view.

Note that the administrator may view this report by school name, grade and subject level and range of dates chosen. The report will show the standard, teacher, % of students active or inactive and the proficiency level of the class.

By clicking on the blue icon next to the numerical standard number, a coherency map will appear giving the prior standard, grade level standard and next level standard, as well.

In the top right corner, the administrator may choose to receive a copy of this report monthly, weekly, daily, or never. These reports may be downloaded and printed for accountability purposes.

Benchmark Report is the next icon on the left side of the admin portal page.

By selecting this icon and choosing the lessons/assessments to review the following sample will appear.

Here results will appear showing the teacher and each students’ attempt at assignments by proficiency levels reached.

To review program activity by teacher, the administrator may click on the Teacher Activity tab on the left side and view the following.

This report shows the name of the school, teacher, number of times logged in, number of lessons assigned, most recent login date by teacher, number of lessons created by the teacher and the student activity.

By clicking on the blue icon – student activity, the administrator can view in greater depth as seen below.

In this report, the administrator can view the student’s individual activity. This will assist in determining whether the student is actively attempting the program and to what degree. The number of logins, duration of logins, lessons assigned, and lessons attempted are readily available.

The Coherency Map is the next tab on the left side of the main admin portal page.

As mentioned previously, a coherency map can show the standards that are one grade level below, on grade level, and one grade level above.

Note the map below that shows student proficiency levels on grade level and then the next step.

Resources include EdSearch where you can find multiple activities related to grade, content, and standards to add to your teachers’ resource kits and assign to students. Below is a screenshot of EdSearch.

Teachers can view the activities and assign to students for review, tutorials, and/or homework.

The admin portal has multiple uses in a school or district setting to help gain a better understanding of our Lumos Learning Online Program. We provide free training and support upon purchase by a school or district. The purpose of the portal is to effectively implement and understand the program and usage
